Supporting the New Masters of Today

A charity recognising and advancing expressive talents of students.

About the Charity

Founded in 2017, Friends of Edinburgh Atelier’s mission is to advance the training of students at Edinburgh Atelier of Fine Art by providing scholarships, excellent facilities, and the best learning resources available. We believe that no artist should be excluded from advancing their expressive talents because of social, geographical or financial disadvantage.

Our Three Areas of Focus Are

  • To help provide facilities and educational resources that would otherwise not be available
  • To raise funds to provide financial assistance and opportunities for participation by people who might otherwise be excluded
  • To advance awareness of classical atelier art at a national level, encourage high standards by raising artistic skills and nurturing talent, and contributing to the cultural life of the nation

Friends of Edinburgh Atelier is a registered Scottish charity (charity number SC047547).

More About The Atelier

Our Trustees

Joy Barnard

President

Joy studied archaeology at the University of Edinburgh, obtaining a PhD in 1990. She thereafter studied law, working in commercial litigation as a partner in one of Edinburgh’s larger firms until 2013 when she retired from private practice. Joy began studying at the Atelier in 2016 and continues to attend as a full-time student. She served on the board of her local Community Development Trust as a co-opted director, and is involved in other local organisations.

Grace McNaughton

Treasurer

A retired business manager, Grace's past professional life saw her wearing many hats, making her a valuable addition to the charity. With a long-held interest for art and an enthusiastic supporter of Edinburgh Atelier, Grace is a keen believer in encouraging personal skills and development and continues building her own skill set to assist the development of Friends of Edinburgh Atelier. She has welcomed the opportunity to be a Trustee with FEA and to provide financial assistance to struggling, deserving and aspiring artists who wish to train at the highest level.

Lea Vaughn

Secretary

Originally from the Washington DC area, Lea has lived in Scotland for 20 years, always maintaining a keen interest in art. Involved with EAFA from the early days, Lea has watched it grow from strength to strength. She now wears two hats as the Atelier Manager and Senior Instructor. Lea passionately believes that anyone with a desire to learn should be able to have access to atelier standard training.

“I love coming to work and being privileged enough to work with such talented individuals”.
